JOB TITLE: Intern (Gender, Protection and Inclusion)

DURATION: 8 months
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
WFP Tanzania through its Country Strategic Plan (CSP, 2022-2027) is supporting the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania to deliver equitable and inclusive economic growth through investments in human capital, resilient livelihoods and nutritious diets. Key priorities in the CSP include providing policy-level advocacy and technical assistance to national systems on school feeding and nutrition towards improving the nutrition situation using a lifecycle approach and contribute to better learning experience.
In line with the CSP objectives and with funding from the Government of Canada, WFP and the Government of Tanzania are implementing Tanzania School Feeding Project. WFP Tanzania Country Office in Dar es Salaam is seeking to fill an internship position for 8 months to provide gender, protection and inclusion support implementation of the project.
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Policy Officer (Gender, Protection and Youth) and overall supervision of the Head of Nutrition, HIV and School-Based Programmes, the Intern will perform the following duties:
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review project documents and reference materials to identify entry points and opportunities for integrating gender, protection, and inclusion in the project.
Support the follow-up, review and analysis of the Gender and Intersectional Assessment for the Tanzania School Feeding Project.
Support analysis of gender norms and barriers affecting school feeding, school attendance, retention, participation, nutrition, health, and agricultural outcomes in Lindi and Mtwara regions.
Assist in documenting gender responsive lessons learned and good practices from Lindi and Mtwara. Assist in awareness-raising sessions, dissemination and contextualisation of protection and inclusion information for project stakeholders including schools, communities, and partners.
Support collection, documentation, and analysis of gender, protection, and inclusion-sensitive data, including sex-, age-, disability-disaggregated data.
Contribute inputs to internal reports, donor reports, briefs, and presentations related to gender, protection, and inclusion related to the School Feeding Project.
Support development of knowledge materials including print and audiovisuals, case studies, human-interest stories, and learning notes highlighting gender, protection, and inclusion aspects related to the School Feeding project.
Support coordination with schools, communities, local government authorities, and implementing partners on gender, protection and inclusion issues, as required in Lindi and Mtwara regions.
Assist in organising trainings, workshops, consultations, and review meetings with partners related to gender, protection, and inclusion in Lindi and Mtwara regions.
Participate in field monitoring visits in Lindi and Mtwara Regions, as required.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
During the 8-month internship period, the intern is expected to:
1. Prepare a high-level summary of the Gender and Intersectional Analysis for presentation and dissemination to the Country Office Management and Staff.
2. Review and contribute to the finalisation of the Gender and Intersectional Analysis for the Tanzania School Feeding Project.
3. Contribute to the review and contextualisation the Gender Action Plan for the project.
4. Provide gender, protection and inclusion inputs to project or donor reports, briefs, and presentations.
5. Contribute to drafting or updating gender, protection and inclusion-sensitive tools, checklists, or guidance notes adapted to the local context.
6. Contribute to developing knowledge products on gender, protection, and inclusion for the project.
7. Provide monthly activity summaries highlighting tasks completed, key observations, and lessons learned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
Currently enrolled in a Postgraduate (Master's) programme; or
Recent graduate (from an Undergraduate or Postgraduate Programme) within six months prior to application for the internship and attended classes in the last 12 months of enrolment with the University.
Preferred fields of study: Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies/ International Development, Sociology, Anthropology, Public Health, Education, Human Rights, Social Work, or other relevant University Degree.
Experience:
Minimum of 6 months to 2 years of experience (including internship, volunteer work, community engagement) in gender, protection and inclusion or related experience.
Knowledge of tools and resources for gender, protection and inclusion programming will be an added advantage.
Exposure to development, humanitarian, education, nutrition, or health programmes will be an added advantage.
Experience working with Government, Non-Governmental Organisations, Civil Society Organisations, Academia and the United Nations will be an added advantage.
Experience in developing communication materials and knowledge products will be an added advantage.
Experience in conducting desk or literature reviews, proposal and report writing.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and to coordinate inputs from a variety of actors.
Knowledge and Skills:
Basic understanding of gender analysis, intersectionality, and safeguarding concepts.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Good analytical, documentation, and report writing skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including communities, schools, and government counterparts and in multicultural settings.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines and detail oriented.
Proactive and resourceful, with a willingness to take initiative and learn new skills.
Flexible and adaptable, able to work well in a fast-paced environment.
Thinks innovatively and applies creative thinking.
Willingness to travel to Lindi and Mtwara regions.
Knowledge about Project Management and Knowledge Management.
Languages:
Fluency in English and Swahili.
