Recrutement de 01 Environmental Sustainability Coordinator (Systems and Operations)
Environmental Sustainability Coordinator (Systems and Operations) (1945)
C3 2021
Concern is hiring an Environmental Sustainability Coordinator (Systems and Operations) with a view to supporting the management of the organisational Environment Strategy. Ensuring Concern’s contribution to a sustainable planet and environment is a key recent commitment of the organisation, adding to and building on the many years of our programme work on natural resources management, agriculture, forestry and related interventions. This position is important in ensuring that Concern keeps track of and drives the newer objectives in the strategy that are not part of programmes and to provide technical support to a variety of sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives across the organisation, particularly in the areas of systems and operations.
The job: To coordinate and provide support to the whole organisation on reducing its climate and environmental footprint, acting as coordinator of the Environment Working Group, as well as providing technical expertise and advice in relation to Concern’s systems and operations (waste management, sustainable procurement and logistics, decarbonisation, energy transition, resource efficiency, etc.).
If you join us, this is what you will be doing:
To support the SAL Director (or equivalent) with the day-to-day work required to advance key actions outlined under specific objectives of the Environment Strategy:
To reduce greenhouse gas emissions from energy and buildings, transport and procurement/logistics for country and support offices across the organisation. This requires supporting offices by: leading the monitoring and coordination of the organisation-wide carbon audit on an annual basis (Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions); identifying and implementing decarbonisation solutions in line with Concern’s carbon reduction target towards 2030; and socialising decarbonisation as a priority across the organisation.
To reduce the negative environmental impact of offices, structures and assets in each Concern country of operation through identifying and implementing appropriate measures to enhance the sustainability of our operations. This requires supporting offices to adhere to Concern’s environmental and carbon reduction targets, as well as donor requirements.
To contribute to advocacy for policy and practice changes that create a more sustainable environment and which are balanced with responding to the needs of the poorest people in the world, those impacted most by climate change.
To support Concern’s Carbon Finance Working Group by staying up to date with policy developments, methodologies and scientific research in the carbon finance arena and supporting corporate fundraising to engage with the carbon finance market, including supporting country programmes adhere to Carbon Finance Ethical Principles.
Conducting research into best practice in key areas, drawing out implications and guidance for Concern and ways forward (e.g., policy and donor positions across key topics such as waste management, sustainable procurement and logistics, decarbonisation, energy transition, resource efficiency, etc.).
Provide support to the Environment Working Group in terms of drawing up meeting agendas, taking minutes of meetings and following up on actions required and noted.
Lead the data collection and analysis of all information required for environmental reporting (carbon, waste, plastic packaging in procurement, etc.) and optimise Concern’s internal readiness for CSRD reporting.
Distil and consolidate such information into formats useful for the Environment Working Group and various managers, including the Senior Management Team, to enabling good decision-making.
Support other departments in Concern in answering queries from external agencies such as donors, networks and the media in relation to Concern’s actions on climate change and towards a sustainable environment.
Provide support to any additional actions needed to support the roll-out of the environment strategy, e.g. hiring of key staff members, induction, preparation of materials for external representation or fundraising, etc.
Upholding and promoting Concern’s values, including our workplace equality, diversity and inclusion values.
Skills you will bring:
Essential:
At least Masters’ level degree in an appropriate discipline with experience in sustainability, environmental science, natural resource management, environmental management or a related field.
At least 5 years’ experience, either in: a) a climate change mitigation role; b) a pan-organisational coordination role with content complexity; or c) a pan-organisational management role.
Experience conducting carbon auditing and environmental/sustainability reporting.
Strong understanding of sustainability, climate change and environmental management and demonstrable experience of providing advisory and practical support in embedding sustainability or environmental management within organisations.
Strong knowledge of humanitarian work and how climate change mitigation and environmental issues play out for organisations with a humanitarian mandate – particularly humanitarian logistics, supply chains and procurement.
A self-starter with a proven capacity to work independently and proactively to enable change.
A proven capacity to translate information and big ideas into actionable plans.
Excellent conceptual and analytical skills with strong data analysis and validation skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate technical concepts with non-technical personnel.
Excellent organisational and multi-tasking skills with strong attention to detail.
Desirable:
Experience working in an international development and humanitarian organisation, with a further preference of experience of fragile and conflict-affected contexts, since these comprise most of Concern’s operating environments.
Experience working on climate mitigation and/or environmental issues in a developing country, especially in a fragile and conflict affected context.
Experience with topic-relevant standards and regulations (CSRD, Humanitarian and Environment Charter, DG ECHO Minimum Environmental Requirements; Global Reporting Initiative, GHG Protocol Corporate Standards, etc.).
Ability to work in the French language.
You will report to Director of Strategy, Advocacy and Learning (SAL) and work with all departments across the organisation
The salary is from €62,393 to €73,405 (band 6) and this is a two year fixed term contract (with likely extension)
