How can you make a difference?

Under the guidance and supervision of the Child Protection Manager, the incumbent contributes to the implementation of UNICEF’s child protection programme in the Eastern Zone of DRC (North Kivu, South Kivu and Ituri). This includes support, technical guidance and collaboration with partners, contribution to resources mobilization and reporting and contribution to evidence building and knowledge management for increased protection of children affected by emergency and displacement.

Responsibilities and duties:

Support the implementation of the child protection programme in North Kivu. This includes the development of the programme documents, the collaboration and monitoring with CSO and Government partners, reporting to the donors, support to the implementation of HACT procedures.
Contribute to resources mobilization efforts, by providing inputs to drafting programme proposals and developing concept notes on programmatic approaches and innovative aspects.
Contribute to maintain and expand UNICEF supported programmes on children affected by armed conflict, unaccompanied and separated children, mental health, and psychosocial support (MHPSS) and gender-based violence, social work, justice for children.
Contribute to consolidate and document the results and learnings of the child protection programme in North Kivu.
Analyze, and contribute to the review and development of documents, briefing notes, presentations to illustrate the child protection programme in North Kivu.
Coordinate the CPiE response on the onset of humanitarian crises in North Kivu and assist CP response in Ituri and South Kivu (geographical approach to crises across provinces).
Strengthen child protection prevention and response capacities of local and community-based organizations and stakeholders
Participate and represent UNICEF as required and requested in relevant inter-agency child protection fora at the provincial level.
Contribute to relevant grant management including overall commitment, expenditures of funds in accordance with program budget allotments.
Carry out other relevant duties that may be assigned by the supervisor generally related to the functioning of the child protection sector (and in coordination with other team members).

Education

A University degree in international development, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or other social science field is required.

Experience

Two (2) years of years of progressively responsible professional work experience at national and international levels related to child protection, with specific focus on in humanitarian action. This includes direct field experience in the planning and management of child protection and related programmes, including in developing countries, with practical experience in designing, planning, monitoring, implementing, and reporting on protection programmes in conflict and other emergency situations.

Experience in child protection in emergencies, across multiple work areas notably children affected by armed conflict, monitoring, and reporting on grave violations of children’s rights, unaccompanied and separated children, mental health, and psychosocial support (MHPSS) and gender-based violence, are a distinct advantage.

Language

Fluency in French is required. Knowledge of English is necessary, and a local language is an asset.
